For parts with complex structure, stainless steel 3d printing service can realize integral printing forming, avoiding mass increase and potential quality defects caused by welding forming a complex part after disassembling and manufacturing, and even canceling the assembly of complex parts.
3D printing 316L stainless steel is very accurately due to its excellent coating resolution (30-40 µm) and laser accuracy. Unlike polymer powder sintering, printing stainless steel through DMLS requires the addition of infrastructure to connect parts to the plate and enhance unique geometry such as overhang.

The metal powder of 316L stainless steel is enriched by iron (66-70%), chromium (16-18%), nickel (11-14%) and molybdenum (2-3%). The material is highly resistant to corrosion and has high ductility. 316L stainless steel prints very accurately, due to its excellent coating resolution (30-40 µm) and laser accuracy. Despite the lack of special finishes, the material still exudes a granular and rough appearance, although they are suitable for most applications. After printing through the finishing step, a smooth and shiny surface can be obtained. Parts can be machined, drilled, welded, electroetched, granulated, polished and coated. Stainless steel is the smoothest material compared to other metal 3D-printed materials.
Stainless steel is different from carbon steel, the current chromium content is different, 10.5% of the lowest chromium content of the steel alloy, stainless steel is not easy to rust corrosion. At present, there are three kinds of stainless steel applied in metal 3D printing: austenitic stainless steel 316L, martensitic stainless steel 15-5pH, martensitic stainless steel 17-4pH.
Austenitic stainless steel 316L, with high strength and corrosion resistance, can be reduced to low temperatures in a wide temperature range, can be used in aerospace, petrochemical and other engineering applications, also can be used in food processing and medical fields.
Martensitic stainless steel 15-5pH, also known as martensitic aging (precipitation hardening) stainless steel, has high strength, good toughness, corrosion resistance, and can be further hardened, is ferritic. Currently, it is widely used in aerospace, petrochemical, chemical, food processing, paper making and metal processing industry.
Martensitic stainless steel 17-4pH, up to 315℃ still has high strength and toughness, and super corrosion resistance, with laser processing state can bring excellent ductility.
Parts can be machined, spark-eroded, welded, shot-peened, polished and coated if required. For parts that need to be sterilized and highly corrosion resistant.
